Why no Russians on the Unity Awards?

Here’s one of the things I cannot fit into 150 symbol limit.

Emil aka AngryAnt (the guy any Unity user should follow and bookmark) bumped me into a valid question:

angryant-unity3d-awards

Each year Unity awards a number of projects in a multiple categories, and here’s the shortlist of Unity Awards 2013. So far – only two projects from Eastern Europe or Russia, both non-games: Roman Forum and Sports Venue Planner. Why?

So, prove me wrong, but the low presence of Russian projects in the Unity Awards 2013 shortlist is because

  1. Russians essentially read Russian media, and our Unity Awards message was never broadcasted in Russian, so very few knew
  2. It often takes quite a lot of efforts for Russians to fill in the form with a PR-blessed text in English, so very few applied
  3. Currently the market is all about casual games that don’t quite fall into any excellence category, so few had a project to apply with

Did I miss anything?

I’m from russia and I applied my project.
It’s not so money oriented as another ones. I agree that studios with 5-10 people make much better and attractive product than one and half man =), but at least my project was quite original compare to another ones.
So maybe unity is not very interested to advertise projects which is not bring the money.

And another question, you told that “quite a lot of efforts to apply the form”
May I ask you, how many effort’s required to change status from “Your entry has been submitted! You are good to go.” to something else, and at least send the email about it?

I am not directly involved with the Awards thing, so I cannot comment. But since I am getting more and more questions about it, I’ll try to do a summary on what/how and why do we do it.

http://www.gamedev.ru/news/ – there is no entry about contest.
And this is biggest Russian site about gamedev.

I’m russian, i know english good enough for reading manuals, watch some videos, etc. But i want to talk native – with other russian(ukranian, belarussian) guys. Common themes, common memes, etc, etc, etc.
